Are you seeing the “No Speakers or Headphones Are Plugged In” error on your Windows 7 computer? This issue is very common on older PCs where the audio driver is missing or outdated. I recently faced the same problem on my HP Compaq dc7600 Small Form Factor (an old desktop model) and successfully fixed it by updating the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver through Device Manager.

Now I am sharing the tested working driver backup with you for free.

  • OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

  • OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation

🔊 Problem Faced


No Speaker or headphone are plugged in
No Speakers


When I hovered the mouse over the sound icon in the taskbar, the error message appeared:
“No Speakers or Headphones Are Plugged In.”

This indicated that the audio driver was either missing or corrupted.

✅ Solution (via Device Manager)

Instead of downloading random EXE files, I went to:

  1. Right Click on Computer → Manage

  2. Open Device Manager

  3. Expand “Sound, Video and Game Controllers”

  4. Right Click → Update Driver on Realtek High Definition Audio

Windows automatically installed the correct driver, and the sound started working immediately.

  1. Download the driver backup from the link above.

  2. Open Device Manager.

  3. Right click on High Definition Audio → Update Driver.

  4. Select the folder of the downloaded driver backup.

  5. Complete the installation and restart your PC.

⚡ Final Words

This tested solution works on HP Compaq dc7600 (old model) running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
If you have an older desktop and are facing the same “No Speakers or Headphones Are Plugged In” problem, simply use this driver backup and install it through Device Manager.
